Spinning 201: Beyond the Basics - Intermediate Spinning

Date:  Sunday, December 13th - 2:00-4:00pm

Class level: Advanced Beginner (must be able to spin a single ply yarn)

Take your spinning skills beyond the basics in this intermediate spinning class!  We'll explore how twist direction affects your yarn, different plying techniques, wheel tension, spinning woolen and worsted, finishing your yarn, fiber prep and other skills.

What You'll Learn:

• How different wheels work
  
• Wheel tension
• Fiber prep
• Roving, braids and rolags
  
• Different plying techniques including
  • plying back - sample yarn
  • Navajo plying
• How to tie on bobbin leader
• Z & S Twist
• Spinning woolen and worsted
• Finishing yarn

Materials needed:

• Spinning wheel in good working order (Good working order means all parts are in good shape -no missing pieces, and the wheel is balanced.)
• Fiber will be provided for the class with a $10 fee to the instructor.  Additional fiber for at home spinning will be available for purchase after class. 

The "Rent a Wheel" option for this class is purchased separately and includes the use of an Ashford Traditional Single Drive OR Ashford Joy Spinning Wheel.
